His current interests are in the areas of adaptive control and robust process control, as well as in image processing and its applications in robotic. He has worked on various research and development projects supported by the Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnología (MCyT) in the area of control and supervision of industrial processes. In particular he works in the development of control systems for the distributed collectors field of the Planta Solar de Almería. At present he is principal researcher of the project "Controladores Robustos de Robots Industriales". He has worked on various research and development projects in cooperation with industry (Sevillana de Electricidad, BAZAN, SAINCO, NUSIM, NUI+D and other).

He is the author of the book Control Adaptativo y Robusto (In Spanish), published by the University of Seville, 1996, and of the book Advanced Control of Solar Plants, published by Springer-Verlag, 1997, and also authored and co-authored more than 200 technical papers published in international journals and conference proceedings.
